Sonal is an architect and urban designer. She is currently an Associate Professor at KRVIA, Mumbai, and has been teaching there for the last 13 years. She has been involved in research projects on urban peripheries and city cultures through the Research and Design Cell at the KRVIA. She was involved in a research project on the slum rehabilitation policy through the Collective Research Initiatives Trust.

She organised the exhibition Explorations in Representation at KRVIA, that was an extension of the work exhibited at the Turning Tables exhibit as part of the Urban Lab+ Collective at the Palazzzo Mora, Venice Biennale in 2012 . She is founding partner at the architectural firm aDRG. Sonal writes on art and architecture and her writings have appeared in SPADE, Domus, The Mumbai Reader, The Urban Pamphleteer and several other publications.
